We’ve all been there—the moment when you stare at your closet, thinking you have nothing to wear. In reality, you have a closet full of fun pieces. However, we live in a world where if something isn’t trendy right now, it’s considered unfashionable. We live in a world where the less clothing you wear, the more attention you think you’ll get. We live in a world where the brand on your shirt determines your social status.

With all these influences around us, it’s hard to find where our true worth lies. Thankfully, the Lord has graciously provided us with scripture to guide us back to Him, just as He always does.

1 Peter 3:3-4 "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."

The Lord sees worth in a gentle and quiet spirit, not in the clothes you wear. He looks past the outward appearance to see the heart of the one who serves Him well and points others back to Him. It is so comforting to know that the Lord truly does not care about our outward appearance. So, why do we care so much if our Heavenly Father, who created the entire earth, doesn’t care? It seems a bit silly, doesn’t it?

Here are three simple reminders for when you forget about the Lord’s perspective on fashion:

1. The Lord does not care about trends!

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that if you don’t keep up with trends, you won’t get into Heaven. Hallelujah! Stop worrying about keeping up with what everyone else is wearing. Wear what you want, and let God handle the rest!

2. Less is not always best!

Growing up, I often heard that "modesty is the best policy." When I was younger, I never truly understood what that meant. Now, I see the difference it makes in how I represent the Lord. I am an image-bearer of the King, and so are you! We need to start dressing like it.

3. Dress for an audience of One!

Yes, getting compliments on how cute your outfit is can be fun and flattering. But at the end of the day, it truly doesn’t matter what others think or believe. Your Father’s thoughts and opinions matter more than anyone else’s! Take the stress off your shoulders of trying to pick out an outfit that will get you the most compliments. Focus on serving your Father well!

Now go have fun picking out your outfit for the next event! Go shopping with your friends, and try on lots of clothes! Just be sure not to get caught up in finding your worth within the fabric on your skin. You are loved far beyond that!
